Test Pitz

While not as exciting as pictures of me losing 5 liters of water from my body in a period of 5 hours, I thought pictures of what test pits actually are might interest somebody. Here you go:

Yup, It's a hole in the ground that was dug out by a backhoe bucket. I take a shovel and fill a 5 gallon bucket with a sample of the dirt (or rock), write down what I see, then move on to the next one.

So for example, in this one there is: reddish brown silty clay with coral gravel to about 1', then coral underneath it. Very exciting. Yes, I had to do this 40 times, but luckily none of them were deeper than 3 feet so it only took 2 days.
