Volcanos!

From today's EPOD..

Provided by:
Dennis Walton,
Earth Science Picture of the Day for July 31, 2006

The island of Java has more volcanoes than any other island in the world. At last count, 128 were active and 65 considered dangerous. The photo above, taken on May 31, 2003, shows 2 of these active volcanos. Mt. Semeru, in the background, at 12,066 foot (3,678 m) is the tallest volcano on Java, and Mt. Bromo, in the foreground, is the center piece of a beautiful national park.

Drunken Tomfoolery

Saturday, Sean, Dave, Anne, and I had a romp at Sunset and Pupukea, followed by a crazy astro firetwirl party at Keiki!

This was our first time hanging with Anne (our new REU friend from Seattle) and I have to say it was the most fun I've had in possibly a year. Can't say enough about people being comfortable doing/saying whatever they want. So to make it even more fun she and I got hammered! There are plenty of pics on Dave's Pic Site.. check em out, but here's a few highlights from our day..

Sean squinting at a paper eucalyptus tree on the Pupukea hike.

The Waianae view.

Dave and his crazy fire self

Anne and my drunken tomfoolery! It was so much fun =) even if (maybe because) everyone else thought we were nutz

Silly Monkeys..

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Lynn sent me this pic cause of my tiger pics from the MN zoo the other day! Monkeys are great! They're just doin their thing - not caring whether or not you're offended or anything. We could learn a lot from monkeys - like how to throw our feces at thing/people we don't like!

Minneapolis Zoo

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the Minneapoils Zoo with my cousins - Erin, Aren, and their son Tanner. We saw a bunch of cool stuff like lemurs, tigers, sharks, turtles, giraffes, and all that jazz. I hadn't been to a zoo since I was probably 10 years old cause I never really liked them with all the animal smells and all, but it was refreshing to run around with a 4 year old who was squealing excitedly about every new thing we saw, and to see how far zoos have come with the environments and awareness education in 16 years.

Here's Tanner excited about the turtle

Ring-Tailed Lemurs

Red Lemur - creepy eyes, huh?

Crazy swingy long armed monkey (gibbon?)

Red Panda

Tigers - not too sure if they're getting it on or not, but it was suspicious...

Caribou

Mexican Wolf - Is it me or does it look a little sad?

Minneapolis Zoo II

Water Buffalo

Giraffe and Zebras - I really wish the fence wasn't in this shot.. I could believe I was in Africa!

Gazelles

Yucca Flowers

The fam - Aren, Tanner, and Erin

Prarie Dogs - Erin's favorite

Buffalo

Meerkat

Meerkat nut-shot. It was really funny - the kat was trying to play with the kid's stuffed animal.. they all came over to bat at it. Awesome.

back to work...

SO I'm reluctantly (I know you don't believe me) heading back to HI today.. It's been the best vacation (for visiting and such) I've had to date and I just don't want it to end. Hanging with Erin and Aren in Minneapolis and meeting their son Tanner (cute!!) was great.

We went to a bunch of fun restaurants, the Mall of America (I'm so ashamed, but they have rides!!), the Minneapolis Zoo (I"ll be posting that one of these days), and the bggest salad bar I've seen in downtown Minne (and I ate lots of it!!)

Getting to 2 weddings was crazy, but worth it. I got to have a bunch of time with my parents, but it's never enough since they're always so much fun to spend time with. I saw all of my mom's side of the family plus a few others, was a trial dance instruction student, ate LOTS of good food (and got to grocery shop for it all), hung out with some old high school buds while shaking my ass with my brother and his roommates to one of the best cover bands I've seen (they did the Killers, Beastie Boys, the 'Annie are you OK' song, and more that I can't rememer cause I was so busy wiggling), I bought a bunch of stuff for me and a couple other people, went to the U of M art exhibit (which was kickass), had super good 1 on 1's with each of my parents, neighbors and such, and got incredibly sick of talking about living in hawaii and explaining that I don't really do anything interesting at work to everyone that didn't know - but hey - it's something to talk about.

And last night I got to hang with Rosie and meet her soon-to-be-husband Chris. Awesome.

Just the kind of thing I need before Dave leaves for a month and I add school to work for the next 3-4 years!

Flight Pics, Finally

I've been having a lot of fun with the fam lately and haven't really felt like looking through crappy airplane pics, but then I thought, my adoring public is waiting! How can I keep such art from them?

These pics are from HNL to SFO to Vegas to MSP not in order cause I forgot to format the card before I started taking pics.. and I didn't notice until I was on my way to Vegas.

It looks like someone threw an egg out the window and it fried itself on the desert floor.
