Ku'ulei's Birthday at the Point

Monday we had a surprise party for Ku'ulei out at the point.

Ku'ulei is the biggest planner of parties for other people, and she surprised Erin particularly well with a baby shower last fall. BUT! She has purposely kept the date of her birthday a well kept secret so that she couldn't come to work and befall a similar fate... well, she underestimated the skills of a couple of her employees, namely Ann and Erin.

Especially Erin.

Apparently, she was more surprised than I was aware of and as been scheming ever since to get Ku'ulei for her birthday and had been wracking her brain trying to figure out when it was.

Lucky for us, she's extremely resourceful.

Between Erin and Ann, everyone was brought on board so there was excellent turnout. I think everyone was able to make it except for Ann who was unfortunately away in New York.

The food as usual was spectacular!

We had carrot cake, pesto pasta, cucumber, kalamata olives, cilantro, tahini, adzuki bean manapua, fresh squeezed lemonade, seaweed salad, vegan curry, hummus, and pita chips.

Once again, I don't know what to say other than best. job. ever.

We're working on having a birthday at least every month!

NADA Taining!

Yes, NADA in this all caps configuration doesn't mean "nothing, zilch, zero, etc" but stands for National Acupuncture Detox Association". Last weekend, about 20 of us started training in the NADA protocol which uses the ear to treat people for addiction. It has been proven since the 1970s to have great impact on the ability of people to recover from addictions as difficult as heroin, methadone, alcohol, and crystal meth. It's pretty cool stuff!

and of course, everyone who knows me knows how much I love the ear....

Cupping!!

Ahhh.. it's that time of year again... time to cup. This time we didn't have any oil or lotion hanging around so all the cups were stationary... and I feel as such, they were less dramatic. You can see for yourself(ves)... to the right is a picture of my back from today... yes, I know I need to get back on the beach.... and yes, my picture quality is really missing Dave.

And here is a pic of me from mid-October.. the previous time..
(don't my shoulders look disproportionate? Camera angle can really make a huge difference, huh?)

And finally, here's a picture from about a year ago. The one in the middle of my neck was so swollen that you could actually grab it for hours. It was nuts!

I know these pictures look like I'm being abused or something, but it is very much like a massage and it feels really good. Plus it looks all crazy and in acupuncture school we get off on that kind of thing.

Moving and other excuses

"At least I'm better than Sean" was my other idea for the title of this post. And since he doesn't pay any attention to his blog, I'm sure he's not reading mine so I can bitch all I want!

Anyway, I am pretty sure that Anne is the only person that looks at this page so I'll inform her that I have made time to write another extensive China post just for her. I have mountains of excuses in my head as for why I haven't been promptly updating like someone else we know, and she knows them all.
As for anyone else that may by chance peek over this way, I've just moved myself to Kaneohe and I haven't even had time to get my shit together. Maybe I will have some pics of my new place up by the time the semester is over in May. Won't my adoring public be excited?
